RHS T4S Instructional Practice

After looking at the new T4S instrument, analyzing sweeps data, and discussing the data with staff we have decided to put our attention on the instructional practice of academic conversations. We see this as a critical area that will increase the rigor happening in our high school classrooms.

Throughout our 2016 -17 SPSA we have created action steps to bring more knowledge and practice in the area of academic conversations. Professional development, peer collaboration and observation, and materials are all attached to the goals of Mathematics, Science, English Language Arts, Professional Development, The hope is that our focus on academic conversations across the curriculum will engage our students with rigorous standards and improve upon the other components of the T4S instrument.

Customer Service at RHS

At RHS we pride ourselves on a gold standard of customer service. Our goal is to make sure that every person who walk through our door is valued member of our community and school. The survey data reinforced the positive interactions that we want to have with all our stakeholders.

We analyzed and discussed the data as an administration and then presented into our office staff. They found the process enlightening. Through the data we hope to focus on specific areas and goals for next year to improve our customer service.

On 4/26 we celebrated our administrative professionals by giving them lunch and away time from our busy phones. Mr. Isadore and Mr. Pizzo took over the front desk while our very appreciated office staff enjoyed their lunch.

Mayor Pete Sanchez Visits RHS

On April 5th Mayor of Suisun City, Pete Sanchez, came and spoke to our students being honored for their academics. He toured the school and participated in our assembly. Mayor Sanchez even started to pull out money from his own wallet during our raffle to celebrate our students academic success.

RHS Attendance Goals for 2016 - 17

At RHS the administrative team and the attendance team are happy to see the improvement we have made this year. As we look at 2016 - 17 we have decided to focus on 3 areas to improve our attendance.

  • Targeted Intervention for 11th & 12th Graders - Intervention for our  juniors and seniors who are in danger of not graduating is important component to improving our attendance. We have found that many of our attendance issues for our 11th & 12th graders are related to students giving up because they feel they are not going to graduate. Our hope is to address their academic concern so they understand coming to school is a vital component.
  • Communication of Short Term Independent Study - Next year the attendance team plans to proactively communicate to parents via Twitter, autodialer, and webpage about the Short Term IDS option. We will blast information out prior to peak times (Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break).
  • PBIS Integration - RHS has started the first tier of PBIS this year. As we move into the second year one of our focus of the RHS Way will be teaching the importance of attendance. Offering positive behavior interventions will hopefully be an incentive for student attendance while teaching students about the data and research that is out there about attendance will show them that attendance is an important competent of academic success.

RHS PBIS Progress

Our PBIS team met with JP on the April 14th during our 3rd session of PBIS training. We are happy to state that we have finished the school wide matrix (The RHS Way). We have also redesigned the RHS way and created signage for next year. Our next steps for PBIS is to create mini lessons that will be taught during tutorial to our students.

The staff and the team is excited about this process.

Writing and Rubrics

RHS discussed the importance of posting rubrics to our department chairs. After that meeting we wanted to see what teachers were posting that information. Here are some examples we found in our English classes.

CAASPP Training and Schedule

Admin Reyherme attended the CAA
SPP training given by Shelley. RHS has set the schedule for testing and we will be doing a testing training with staff on March 8th's Staff Meeting.

Mustang Message for Attendance Awareness

On 1/14, Mr. Isadore shared with parents via autodialer the importance of school attendance. His message was a script that came from the Count Us In Toolkit and stated:
Did you know that at least one of out of every ten students in the United States misses 10% of the school year? That's the point when absences - excused or unexcused - start to add up to academic trouble. These attendance gaps lead to achievement gaps. Starting in kindergarten, chronic absence leads to 3rd graders unable to read well. By 6th grade, it's a warning sign that students will fail classes or even drop out of high school. So lets all work together to make sure all kids attend today so they can achieve tomorrow.
We have also talked about attendance  with our staff via newsletters. In the future we hope to focus on our attendance by working with PBIS to create positive rewards for our students who improve their attendance.

Community Engagement with Mayor Price

RHS is grateful to be working with Mayor Price to honor our students. In late March  we will be honoring students who earned a 3.5 and above in Fall of 2015 with a special assembly, academic letter, and guest speaker. The administration team at RHS has been working with the Mayor's office to have him come and speak to the students and tell them how proud he is of their diligence and focus.

Customer Service Survey

From 2/22 to 3/4 our attendance clerks asked visitors if they would like to take time to complete a customer survey on a Chromebook  located on the attendance counter.

Parent Engagement at RHS

A report was produced identifying students who do not live with their parents. Through a discussion with administration and counselors we identified that we had touched base with most of the students because of academic reasons.

RHS Starts the PBIS Process

RHS officially started the PBIS process when our team went to the first SCOE training on Jan 19th. After the first team meeting Admin Landeros and PBIS Team Leader, Courtney Rauw, met with JP Grelet to discuss next steps in the process. This meeting was helpful to RHS because JP address our questions like: How long does this roll out take? How can we teach PBIS to our students and teachers.
JP will be introducing the PBIS model to our staff at our 3/8 Staff Meeting. Our team is excited to continue through this process.

SAMR Model Staff Share

In RHS' February newsletter to staff John Pizzo wrote an article about the SAMR model. He attached the SAMR Matrix and SAMR Underwater Graphic.

In additions we will also have Ed Tech Specialist, Dawn Kasperson, present a more in depth explanation of the SAMR model to our staff.

Fall T4S Staff Data Share

RHS completed sharing of Fall T4S data on 2/2 via our February Department Chair Meeting. We shared the data with all our department chairs and asked that they do a data dialogue within their department about the information as a first step before we had a greater group discussion.
