At Sem Yeto, we are striving to provide a learning environment where all students have access to some of the latest technological tools and resources in all of their classes.
We recognize that technology is just a tool; therefore, we are continuing to explore professional development opportunities that will enable our teachers to be more effective in facilitating the use of this new technology in their classrooms( e.g. SAMR Model).
.
Every month FSUSD administrators meet to discuss our progress toward our district's goals in several areas. Each task force group is responsible for coming up with action items to move their goal area forward toward achieving the goals outlined in our LCAP or Local Control Area Plan. As we complete tasks, evidence will be posted here using the task force group and school labels so that you can easily follow along with our progress.

A Dual Vision
At Fairfield High we cannot have a vision for Academics without a vision for Educational Technology. Conversely, we cannot have a vision for Educational Technology without a vision for Academics. After reflecting back on our year so far we have focused on two very important areas for the end of the 2015-2016 school year and for the 2016-2017 school year. We want to see teachers regularly using technology in instruction with the goal of reaching DOK 2 or higher and SAMR: Augmentation or above
Our Ed Tech Vision: "At FHS we see that educational technology will be a quintessential and indispensable part of the teaching and learning process; teachers will use edtech as facilitators of learning relevant to the students' lives, and students will use edtech to become empowered, self-directed learners who realize their potential to impact their community and the wider world."

Technology is moving at GVMS!!
After meeting with Tim Goree and Melissa Farrar, GVMS is on the right track for ensuring that we are a 2:1 school! We have three more classes to outfit with Chrome Books and every classroom has updated technology! We have at least 15 Apple TVs on campus and our goal is to have TVs in each room next year! Our retreat on August 11 will focus completely on technology and we plan to work with Ed Tech to ensure we have a great training!
Integration of Technology and SAMR @Fairfield High
Integration of educational technology has been a focus of ours at Fairfield High since the 2014-2015 school year. Year one we sent several teachers to the GAFE Summit in November 2014 and about 20 to the GAFE Summit over the summer. Then, this year with the deployment of the 1:1 Chromebooks for our 9th graders, we ensured that every 9th grade teacher attended the GAFE Summit in November 2015. However, knowing and understanding the Google Apps for Education is just one step in the puzzle. Understanding how to integrate and where a lesson stands as far as SAMR is another critical component. We want our teachers to fundamentally understand that merely substituting technology for paper is very similar to a DOK level 1. We want to see our teachers at the levels of modification and redefinition.
Our Ed Tech Specialist, Josh Harris, has been a key player in assisting teachers to understand SAMR and what it looks like in their classrooms. Josh has assisted teachers in many ways and his 1:1 coaching in their classroom has been invaluable. Josh is also now going to be part of our continued Plan/Observe/Debrief planning sessions. We are going to work on showing teachers how they can have overlap with educational technology and instructional strategies such as academic conversations.
Our teachers have engaged in two colleague to colleague teaching sessions so far this school year. In November we had our #TechJamSession and in February we had our #InnerCircleOuterCircle. At both sessions teachers shared with each other different ideas for tech integration and ways to move their classrooms from DOK 1/2 up to DOK 3 and 4.

Cleo Gordon Technology
Cleo Gordon teachers viewed the SAMAR model and video during a staff meeting. The staff then rated their current level within the model and discussed ways to move from engagement to transformation. Some teachers then expressed a desire to do more. Several teachers are connecting with our Education Technology Specialist for support.

On February 18, 2016 the Weir staff viewed a video on the
SAMR model and discussed the below questions. The task was very appropriate
for our site as we do have one to one devices. The discussion and video
challenged us to move beyond the Substitution Stage.
·
What does SAMR currently look like at DAW?
o Varies by
classroom
§ Share/Collaborate
on documents
§ Pictures in
6th grade
·
What do you think is keeping teachers in the Substitution Stage?
o Need more
resources/PDs
o Comfort
Level/Experience
·
What could/should it look like in the future?

Anatomy of a New Post in Blogger
This is a little meta, however, for those of you who are new to Blogger, it may be helpful to be reminded of where different features can be found when creating a new post.
Additionally, if you are creating several short posts to cover different topics, consider just writing one post and use Headings and Labels to let people know what info is contained in your post.
Remember, if you need ANY assistance, you can reach out to me or your Ed Tech Specialist; we are happy to help!

Discovering the SAMR Model
We opened our February Faculty Meeting with this SAMR introduction video. This was a great reminder for those who are using a lot of technology and a great introduction for those who are just "dipping their toes" into the 21st century learning pool!

SAMR and Tech Integration at Nelda Mundy
At our first staff meeting, we showed the SAMR in 120 Seconds video and did some work linking SAMR to DOK and Blooms. Since then, and with the support of our AMAZING Ed Tech Specialist, we have seen the level and rigor for technology integration increase significantly. Currently, there are a handful of classes who reach Redefinition regularly through SKYPE, coding, and the use of Spheros and Ozobots. We're so excited to see how technology continues to be integrated into our classroom instruction!

Technology, Suisun Valley
I shared the SAMR model and video in two weekly newsletters to staff 1.29.16
Introduction to the SAMR
(Substitution Augmentation Modification and Redefinition) Model!
Dr. Ruben Puentedura developed the SAMR model as a way for teachers to evaluate how they are incorporating technology into their instructional practice. You can use SAMR to reflect upon how you are integrating technology into your classroom.
Is it an act of Substitution? Augmentation? Modification? or Redefinition? Above is a copy of the SAMR model that I will share in our weekly newsletter. Take a minute to identify where you have done something in your class that fits within the model. Also, take a moment to identify where the presentations from the different departments fit. Check out an article HERE to learn more about it!!

Technology at Grange
During our December staff meeting Grange talked about SAMR in preparation for 1:1 Chromebooks for our students. We discussed SAMR again at our February staff meeting (2-2-2016) and teachers shared out ideas on how to teach students when to have their Chromebooks out (stoplight method) or how we can start using Chromebooks at the substitution level (hyper doc warm up). Teachers were encouraged to being thinking how they could move their technology use to the next level (if they weren't used to technology at least substituting, if they were already substituting then moving to modification, etc).
