Community Readers Visit K.I.Jones!

On March 2, K.I. Jones students and staff celebrated Read Across America Day with the help of our community readers from the Cordelia Rotary and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce. FSUSD Board Member Kathy Marianno also joined us and it was hard to tell who was having more fun - the students or the readers!  Thank you to all and to Sheila McCabe for organizing our community reading team.

Readers waiting for student ambassadors to pick them up and escort them to classrooms.  Yes!  They wore silly hats!

Customer Service at K.I.Jones

Students with iPads roamed the playground chatting with parents in March and asking them to take our customer service survey.  We grabbed 27 responses quickly and the results were excellent!  While we found some places to improve, we were happy to see that most of the parents surveyed found us to be welcoming.  The aging facility and configuration pose challenges with cleanliness outside, but the changes we've made have improved our rating here.  More work to do and we are on it!

K.I. Jones PBIS Team Actively Working the List

The K.I. Jones PBIS Team has completed a revamp of signs, banners, and the ROAR ticket given for respect, open-mindedness, always safe, and responsible.  They have been ordered from the SCOE Printing group and FSUSD Maintenance and will be installed on the buildings in key places as soon as they arrive.  Thanks to J.P. for helping us get over this last obstacle!

The PBIS Team also decided to entice students with excellent cafeteria behavior by having a separate drawing in the cafeteria for a Special Lunch (needs a catchier name).  Students whose name is drawn will bring a friend and sit at the most awesome lunch table ever - on the stage in the cafeteria.  They will receive a special ticket to the Special Lunch and will be able to order a lunch, if desired, from Child Nutrition (pizza or whatever).   We're looking forward to starting this next week!

K.I. Jones Attendance Rises!

We are super proud to report that school wide attendance has improved and we are meeting our attendance goal!  Emphasis on attendance each Monday in the daily announcements, competition among classes in grade levels, attendance awards at assemblies, emphasis on celebrating STAFF attendance, posting attendance messages in our main hallway, and supporting it on the marquee has paid off!  Reaching out personally to families and creating important relationships has helped as well.  We are currently meeting our goal of  a 97% attendance rate.

For the 2016-17 school year, we plan to focus a majority of our attention on grades TK - 1 as they are the grades with the biggest rate of chronic absenteeism.

The Jones Jaguar Attacks Attendance!

The Jones community is working hard on meeting our goal of 97% attendance for the 2015-16 school year.  Each grade level and each classroom's attendance rate is posted weekly and announced to the school on Monday.  Students are celebrated each trimester with attendance awards and bracelets at our ROAR Assembly.
Even teachers with perfect attendance receive awards!

K.I. Jones Rocks SBAC Scheduling!

After checking with staff and pouring over a calendar of activities already planned for April and May....SUCCESS!  An SBAC assessment schedule is completed, Shelley has checked it, and the teachers involved have received it.  Final feedback is due from teachers this week, but it looks like only minor adjustments, if any.

Thank you to TSS for deployment of new devices in time for teachers to begin practice and training tests.

KI Jones Shares T4S

The results of the Fall Sweeps were shared with the KI Jones teaching staff on February 16, 2016 during the monthly Leadership/Grade Level Planning meeting.  Teachers understood that these were baseline numbers from October and felt that their understanding of writing rigorous objectives, in particular, was growing.
